As stated in the U.S. News and World Report, in December 11, 2008, careers in landscape architecture are one of the best careers in 2009.

“Always an environmentally conscious profession, today landscape architect are at the forefront of a movement to create livable communities--practical, sustainable, and enjoyable developments that protect the natural world. In increasing numbers, landscape architects are called upon to design large-scale conservation plans, reclaim neglected inner city brown fields, and restore damaged wetlands and forests.”

To excel the careers in landscape architecture, a landscape architect must own talent and interest in aestheticism and functionality. It is the art and science that you are creating in a specific ecosystem that must sustain over time. In fact, sustainability is getting increasing priority and awareness by the government, urban practitioners and members of the public.

Since setting up consultant firms or project-driven companies may require financial capability as important criteria, almost 20 percent of landscape architects are self-employed in the United State, and there are records showing the increasing of the figures. A landscape architect is someone who practices landscape architecture, a field which involves integrating the art and science of design, planning or management of the land, in arranging natural and man-made structures and objects upon the land. A landscape architect is not a landscaper or gardener; this field is extremely complex and it requires a wide skill set.

The design of the exterior space has enormous impact on the feel and function of a building, adding positive values to the surrounding design.

Landscape architect often works with a team of consultants and experts in determining the best layouts for the location of building, roadways, paths, drainage and utilities layouts. The landscape architect also thinks about the shaping of the land, and what sort of plants and other park furniture to add to the project.
