The Redwoods Treehouse

The Redwoods Treehouse was commissioned as part of a marketing campaign by Yellow Pages New Zealand in 2008. The result is a striking pod-shaped structure built ten metres high in a Redwood tree near Warkworth, north of Auckland.

Access to the Treehouse is provided by an elevated tree - top walkway which was built using Redwood milled on site.

The Redwoods Treehouse is also like a wonderland of cocoons and walkways built in a redwood forest out of sustainably-harvested pine and poplar slats and locally-milled redwood balustrading.

Natural light shines through the slats into the restaurant interior located 10 meters above the ground. Since its completion the treehouse has claimed multiple honors and awards.

Located on the edge of a redwood forest with views over open meadows and streams, the treehouse restaurant is a magical integration of nature and function.

Access to the pod is gained via a long low angle planked walkway, which also makes it wheel chair accessible.

Since the project’s completion it has earned a number of awards, including the New Zealand Institute of Architects Branch Award, Gold Award at the New Zealand Institute of Design – BEST Awards, the Excellence Award from the New Zealand Institute of Building, and it was a finalist in the World Architecture Awards 2009.

Oddly enough though, the restaurant, which was designed by New Zealand-based Pacific Environment Architects, Ltd, is part of a large marketing campaign for the Yellow Pages New Zealand. Seems like an odd pairing, but Yellow Pages thought it would be pretty cool to have a restaurant built in a tree.

When the New Zealand Yellow Pages marketing campaign is over, the restaurant has passed into possession of the land owner, who hopes to use the amazing structure for events, like weddings and parties.

Redwoods Treehouse is now a versatile space as a corporate venue for private functions and events. The pod itself holds 30 guests, or 90 guests can be accommodated for less formal gatherings. What a lovely site for dinner in the woods.

Experience Group Travel has a dedicated 32 seat coach available to facilitate transfers to and from the venue. Because of this unique location, coach access to the property is mandatory under the consent given to operate as a venue for hire.
